It can scratch, but can be re-polished to a high luster. To retain that platinum-like sheen, a good jeweler can coat your white gold jewelry with Rhodium. Rhodium is electrically applied with liquid rhodium and simply covers the metal with a thin, polished coating. It lasts, on average, for 4-5 years before plating is needed.
